In this information-centric era, there is a need for engineers/technocrats, who can communicate intelligently and knowledgeably on the home ground of all functions of the organization. Considerable efforts have been expended in providing the means for this educational process. We are now beginning to witness the advent of the engineer who not only has an understanding of the alternative disciplines but whose thought-processes actually emulate those of the indigenous experts. These skills, which the engineers embrace in addition to their core skills, are those which equip them to be effective and successful managers. There are three major factors upon which every engineer-manager must focus: operational processes; management style; and organization structure. Management concepts are receiving renewed emphasis.
